David Fredericks received a couple pieces of Ogden Mountain Jade from Kirk Makepeace this year and took a detailed examination on them. Kirk spent part of his summer last year reopening his Ogden Mtn deposit and found some fantastic new pieces of Nephrite Jade. He is very excited to go back up this summer and have a longer mining season. Our stores will be getting a lot of Ogden jade in there products for this summer season.

Among the many exhibitors at Holidome is perennial favorite Jade West.

They offer some gorgeous jade jewelry, carvings, and other fun items. The jade golf tees have always delighted me; it’s a shame I don’t golf.

The carving that definitely drew my eye at Jade West this year was the intricately carved owl.

The detail is spectacular, and you can see how much time and talent went into it.

I’m also a fan of their jade spiral carvings. A spiral is cut into a piece of rough and polished for a delightful conversation piece.

The Dalai Lama consecrates the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace

The Polar Pride Boulder has had an amazing Journey since it was first discovered in 2001 at our Polar Mine site. The boulder now known as the Buddha for Universal Peace was consecrated by the Dalai Lama in Sydney, Australia on December 1st. We were lucky to meet up with colored stone employee Scott Stepanski in Las Vegas at the GLDA show in May. He saw our Koru display and new it would make an excellent feature in the upcoming Fall issue "The Joys of Jade". When we sent Colored Stone one of our Korus to photograph they liked it so much they decided to put it on there cover.
We have also received many compliments from people who have seen the article and contacted us. One email in particular stood out to all of us:
"When I saw your beautiful sculpture on the cover of colored stone magazine, volume 21, septemer/october 2008, I was awed!!! To see this beautiful creation carved out of the rough stone is so beautiful. To show the natural stone and then what is inside reminds me of our outer shell, which can sometimes be rough, but on the inside is so beautiful. The beauty inside us sometimes may have to be "carved out", but it is so beautiful and that beauty inside us is from a 'master creator!!!". Thank you. I hope to see some of your beautiful creations in person and I can feel it's powerful spirit already. How I would love to learn this art!. Thank you."

Emperor's Sunrise in Tiananmen Square

Here are some recent images of the "Emperor's Sunrise" outside the Canadian Pavilion in Tiananmen Square in China. We also have another jade river boulder that will be found inside the Pavilion that will be for sale, as well as the bar in the Pavilion is screened with jade tiles that will be for sale as well.

Polar Pride Boulder

Polar Pride is the world largest pure gem quality jade boulder ever found, weighing 18 tones. It was found in 2001 at our Polar Mines found in Northern British Columbia near Dease Lake. Over a year ago we sold Polar Pride and it is now being carved in Northern Thailand into a large Jade Buddha. Once it is finished being carved in the next couple months it will tour around Asia and Australia before residing in Bendigo, Australia. Kirk is currently over in Beijing visiting the Canadian Pavilion where we are going to have our jade on display. There will be the Emperors Sunrise which will be in the entrance way of the Pavilion, a river boulder that will be inside the Pavilion as well as the bar will have jade tiles in the front of the bar.
